Cell phones will be replaced by new technology by 2030, say experts from Nokia and Meta

In the coming years, the cell phone as we know it may have its days numbered. The prediction of their replacements by 2030 was made by two big names in the technology sector: Nishant Batra, technology director at Nokia, and Mark Zuckerberg, founder of Meta. Both support the view that smartphones, although still fundamental today, should be replaced by new technologies that are more immersive and connected to the metaverse. The concept of cell phones can completely transform, offering new forms of interaction and communication.

Nokia, a company that has recently resurfaced in the technology market, is one of those betting on the idea that, by 2030, cell phones will become obsolete. The company’s prediction is that current mobile devices, with physical screens and buttons, will give way to a new generation of devices. These new devices will be completely integrated into the metaverse, allowing people to connect in an immersive way with virtual environments and avatars, instead of just using traditional interfaces like the ones we have on current smartphones.

Mark Zuckerberg, in turn, has a similar vision to Nokia. The businessman, owner of Meta, stated that cell phones will reach the limit of their evolution and that the next major innovation in the field of mobile technology will be with augmented reality devices. Zuckerberg believes that, soon, people will start using augmented reality glasses to access what is currently done on cell phones, making digital experiences much more immersive and present in our everyday lives.

In 2024, Meta took an important step in this direction by presenting its first augmented reality glasses, called “Orion”. These glasses aim to offer a richer and more interactive digital experience, allowing users to connect to the metaverse in a more intuitive and practical way. This technology, according to Zuckerberg, represents the future of communication and entertainment, being Meta’s big bet for the coming years.

The proposal to replace cell phones with new technologies, such as augmented reality, is linked to the search for more immersive and connected experiences. Smartphones, as powerful as they are, have limitations, especially when we think about the new forms of interaction that are emerging. Augmented reality promises to offer a more natural and engaging way to connect to the digital world, where people will be able to interact with virtual objects and environments directly, without relying on small screens and physical touch.

Furthermore, augmented reality technology has the potential to transform several areas of our lives, such as work, education, entertainment and even commerce. With the right devices, it will be possible to perform complex tasks, learn more interactively and shop in virtual environments, without leaving home. The paradigm shift we are about to experience could have a profound impact on how we live and interact with the world around us.

Although it is still difficult to predict exactly when this transition will occur, experts believe that augmented reality technologies and the metaverse have great potential to become the new pillars of digital communication. This change will not be immediate, but in the coming years, it is possible that the cell phone, as we know it today, will lose its relevance. Instead of carrying mobile devices, people will be able to use accessories such as augmented reality glasses, evolving the way we connect to the digital world.

In short, the idea that cell phones will be replaced by new technologies by 2030 is an increasingly plausible reality. Metaverse integration and the advancement of augmented reality are shaping the future of digital communication and interaction. In a scenario where technology evolves rapidly, it would not be surprising to see the cell phone
